Guidelines for granting Research Load Credit (RLC)/
Creative Work Load Credit (CWLC)
A. Faculty members may apply for RLC/CWLC every semester, in accordance with
guidelines adopted by the University;
B. In principle, 3 units of RLC/CWLC corresponds to an original research or creative
work that:
1. Is of 4-6 months duration;
2. Involves at least 160 person-hours of effort or 25% of a full-time workload of
40 hours x 16 weeks;
3. Results in a publishable article (min. 30 pp d.s.) or equivalent creative product;
and
4. Is related to the applicant's or the Asian Center's fields of study.
C. A maximum of 3 units of RLC and/or 3 units of CWLC may be granted per faculty
per semester, with each corresponding to a discrete output to be submitted at
the end of the period;
D. For projects of up to a year in duration, the faculty may apply for a six-unit load,
to be granted as 3 units each for two consecutive semesters, provided that a
preliminary output or substantive progress report be submitted at the end of the
first semester and that the output of the second semester must be demonstrated to
be sufficiently different from the first.
E. Approval of any RLC/CWLC application is contingent on the applicant's submission
of an acceptable output from the previous RLC/CWLC already granted, if any;
F.The Dean shall approve or disapprove applications based on the above guidelines,
but he/she may request the Research and Publications Committee to submit a
recommendation if needed.
G. All research/creative work outputs are to be presented at a faculty conference or
research/creative work dissemination forum which shall be organized by the Asian.
Center at least once every academic year; or at other conferences and public forum;
H. Research/creative work projects that are funded (regardless of source or amount of
funding) will be credited for loading purposes but not for payment of overload honorarium.
