UP hosts forum on reducing risks and disasters due to rain variability |

A panel of experts from the University of the Philippines and from PAGASA and the Department of Agriculture will hold the forum “Reducing Risks and Disasters due to Rainfall Variability: Protecting Life, Food and Property from Flood and Drought” at the National Institute for Science and Mathematics Education (NISMED) Auditorium in UP Diliman on July 28, 2010 (Wednesday), 2:00 p.m.
The forum shall focus on the institutional courses of action that can reduce potential or actual effects of rainfall variability on life, food and property, including extreme variations that cause flood or drought.
The experts will speak on three water-related areas: (1) Water-related Hazards in the Philippines; (2) Food-supply Vulnerability to Water-related Hazards; and (3) Institutional Course of Action to Reduce Water-related Risks and Disasters.
The forum is a joint project of the UP Office of the President, Office of the Vice President for Academic Affairs; the College of Engineering, College of Science, School of Urban and Regional Planning, College of Social Work and Community Development, College of Social Science and Philosophy of UP Diliman; and the College of Forestry and the Natural Resources, College of Agriculture, College of Engineering and Agro-industrial Technology, School of Environmental Science and Management of UP Los Baños.
The forum will also be beamed live to all UP campuses and will be accessible via the UP Facebook Fan Page at http://facebook.com/upsystem.
